Explanation of File TypesThere are two types of art files on the computer. Bitmap (also known as pixel art) and vector art (also known as line art).
Bitmap art is created using programs like Photoshop or anything that is scanned and not converted to line art. These files should be saved at a very high resolution. Bitmap images, also called raster images, consist of a grid, or bitmap, of small squares known as pixels. Bitmap images are set at a fixed resolution, therefore they are resolution dependent. If you send bitmap art we can use it as a template to convert it into vector format. This will incur an art charge
Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. They are resolution independent. Therefore they can be scaled to any size without loss of quality. Text should be converted to outlines, paths or curves when sending a vector file to another location. This way, the font suitcase and printer fonts do not need to be present to print the file.
Note that if you are thinking about using a graphic off of a web site, please understand that we cannot use highly compressed formats such as GIF or JPEG. Their resolution is far too low to use for your imprint.
If your files are ready to go, you can send them as email attachments to logo@mfblouin.com.
